Denim jackets are a really versatile garment that you can easily add to many outfits. Unless you are young and can carry off the ‘double denim’ look, avoid wearing denim with denim (most of us just aren’t cool enough to carry off the denim suit). Instead pair it with many of your other clothes to make the appear that little bit more casual or relaxed.
I love a denim jacket with a skirt. Sometimes a straight skirt can appear too “office” but adding a denim jacket will relax the outfit easily.
A denim jacket with your black pants and a white shirt or blouse will remove the feeling of office from the outfit.
Pop one over a floral dress for a slight rock chick edge.
Denim jackets are great for those cooler summer evenings or during the day in Spring and Autumn when you want an extra layer but not one that’s too warm.
When choosing your denim jacket. Look for features that will flatter your figure.
Personally, I like really soft denim. If the denim is too hard and structured it won’t be as comfortable nor will it mold to your body as easily.
The classic style will suit many shapes. Just think about where the pockets are and what kind of detail is on the bust pockets. Added detail on the pockets such as flaps or embellishment will draw attention to your bust and make it look larger. If you have a large bust find a style that either has no bust pockets or really discreet ones.
Consider the bust pockets
Pockets add bulk to your bust so ensure that if you don’t want make you bust look larger that you look for a jacket that either has no pockets on the bust or are very discreet and flat when the jacket is on.
Of course, if you want your bust to appear more full look for breast pockets and pockets with pocket flaps to add curves.
What about pockets at the waist?
Pockets at the waist create horizontal lines. So if you have an undefined waist be careful about waist pockets as they will draw attention to your waist.
You can look for styles that have no waist pockets or go for those that have diagonal pockets at the waist.
If you have a defined waist, then you can have fun with pockets at the waist.
Remember to look for denim jackets with great vertical seaming through the torso for a lovely elongating effect.

Love a denim jacket. I have one that is collared with curved corners for a more feminine look and another (just bought) that is collarless, shorter and lighter weight. I’m in my 60s and still enjoying wearing them.
