Hi Imogen! I’ve always wondered about this, and now seemed like a good time to ask. I vacillate between an X and 8 shape, depending on my weight, but I feel like wearing a belt is unflattering. Rather than highlighting a small waist, i feel like it draws a horizontal line that widens my waist and makes me appear thicker. For example, a sheath dress with no belt seems, to me, to look much more flattering than a sheath dress with aa thin belt.
I am petite and a bit short-waisted; could that be why? Our am I just too self-conscious about this?
If you don’t like a belt on your waist, then don’t wear one! Also play with thicker and thinner belts. You may be more H than X shaped if you find a belt makes you look wider.
You may actually vacillate between an H and an 8 where the belt does give you a wider waist rather than highlighting a narrow one.
If you haven’t done them already, I would love some posts on how to determine if you’re long- or short-waisted, and other proportion issues.
Absolutely I have done posts on this – have a read of these posts https://insideoutstyleblog.com/category/body/body-proportions-explained
Thank you.
This is a wonderful post. I am pretty sure I am an X low waist but wouldn’t want to bet any money on it!!
Your I Shape Bible link on this page doesn’t send out any information to my email at all…!
Please send me the I Shape Bible to my email below…
Thanks,
Sarah
Hi Imogen, I wonder if you could help me with my body shape because eventhough I’ve read your post I still can’t figure it out. I’m petite, 154cm tall, I’m short waisted and I’ve got rounded hips. My waist is right below my rib cage. My hips and my shoulder are the same width.
Thank you!
Hi Carla – try doing the quiz – if you’d say that the widest point of your hips is high then you are more 8 shape – if it’s low – then possibly X shape if you have a defined waist. if you have an undefined waist then I’m guessing H shape. If you want my personal opinion then I am happy to provide that if you choose to do my 7 Steps to Style program. https://insideoutstyleblog.com/7-steps-to-style-system
Hi Imogen, thanks a lot for you quick answer. The widest point of my hips is low and I have a defined waist, so I guess I’m more X shape than 8.
I really would love to do your 7 Steps to Style program, where can I find the different ways of payment? I’m from Argentina and right now it’s kind of difficult to pay by credit card.
Thanks a lot!
Hi Carla
I take paypal or credit card – and seem to have people from all over the world who can pay by one of these methods. Not sure how else to take payments internationally!
Wow, this is totally new information to me and I am fascinated by it! It seems like I am an “I” body shape… boyish shape but with a large bust! I will have to check out the I Shape Bible! Thanks for linking with me.
