I’m delighted to introduce (for those who don’t know her already) Wendy Brandes a blogger and designer of fabulous jewellery who is based in New York and is sharing her stylish thoughts today.
Wendy with her jewellery |
What is the one thing you would spend a lot of money on? I’ve always believed in the importance of a great haircut.
What is the one thing you wouldn’t spend a lot of money on? Mascara.
What are your top tips for looking stylish when travelling? Avoid sweats, wear lipstick.
How do you balance new trends with a more timeless look? I just wear what I want. Some of that is from the ’60s and some of that is from 2011.
What is your current obsession? Nicki Minaj’s wild Barbie style.
No LBDs |
What’s your secret to making yourself stand out? Red lipstick for day, no little black dresses for evening.
The one piece of advice most women need but don’t get? Trim your hair every six to eight weeks!
What’s the best piece of style wisdom you’ve ever received? When I was a teenager worrying about my skin or my hair, my mother used to say, “No one is looking as closely as you are.” Unfortunately, that’s not necessarily true anymore, what with high-res pictures and Facebook and whatnot. But it’s still good to remember that — unless it’s your wedding — not everyone will be staring at you, so you can take some risks.
Photobombed |
What are your favourite websites Lately, I’m amused by This Is Photobomb. I feel like 2011 is the year of photobombing.
How would you describe your personal style? Eclectic, with a twisted sense of humor.
Takes me back to my high school dances |
Who are your style icons? Jim Morrison, Adam Ant and Joan Jett. But I only dress like them on special occasions.

Wendy's style is fearless and fabulous!! She knows what she likes and what works for her, and trusts her own taste. And she designs the most amazing jewelry! She's been an inspiration to me.
Thanks for interviewing me! Fun questions!
I'm a new fan of WendyB! She is bold and I love her.
Wendy is humourously eclectic – though I never would have described her that way! I would have said fearless and chic. Another great interview Imogen!
Wendy is fabulous — and I so agree that a little black dress is dull for evening wear.
Love this! Great little Q&A! 🙂
