Today’s Stylish Thoughts come from Utah USA based stay-at-home Mum (or should I say Mom) blogger Brittney from A Day in the Life Too…
What is the secret to great style? I think, ultimately, great style emerges when someone seamlessly interweaves their fashion preferences, body type, and personality into a complete whole. Or, if you don’t have time to consider those three things, throw on a pair of Converse All-Stars. BAM. A “great style” bandaid.
What is the one thing you would spend a lot of money on? I haven’t done it yet, but my goal is to buy a great pair (translation: ‘spensive) of jeans. My problem is…I don’t usually have a huge chunk of money to spend at one time. That, and great jeans are hard to find in my little town (because I have to try them on, fo’ sho’) (gross. apologies.).
What is the one thing you wouldn’t spend a lot of money on? T-shirts. And, currently, accent jewelry, because the accessories I wear eventually find their way onto my 2- and 5-year-old daughters’ bodies (and, subsequently, the floor, the clothes hamper, etc.). Maybe this’ll change. Maybe not. But for SURE my tees are pretty cheapo. Disposable.
What’s the secret to looking polished? Pencil skirts. Honestly, I can’t think of one single thing that, when paired with a pencil skirt, looks less than polished. I’ve even busted out my Converse with a pencil skirt, and it magically works. And a blazer. Same thing there.
What is your current obsession? Home design and style and how to create a certain feel and atmosphere in our home…sadly, “obsession” is putting it mildly. Nothing I love more than falling asleep to mental room rearrangements, DIY projects, furniture redos, and all things home-related. I literally have a stack of eight (EIGHT!) home design books I’m trying to read through…I get a little giddy/giggly when I can curl up with one of them for an hour or four. Wow. TMI? Probably. But it’s the truth.
What’s not worth the money? Shopping straight name brands for the sheer sake of having a name brand. Is that old-fashioned of me to say? Too bad, sonny….uphill both ways…where’d I put my spectacles?…new-fangled gizmos…
What’s your secret to making yourself stand out? I don’t know that I want to stand out, necessarily. I’m just an ordinary girl with an ordinary (albeit fabulous) life and ordinary clothes…and I’m trying to make the most of all those things. While standing on my head and popping peanut m&ms into my mouth and playing air guitar, of course. No biggie.
What is your favourite current trend? Maxi dresses. Oh how I love the socially acceptable pajama-ness that is the maxi dress!
Ooh. I love her style.
Thanks for having me, Imogen! These questions were great…I hope I don't drive your readers away.
And I've said it before and I'll say it again–your blog is so classy and, well, USEful. Not to mention inspiring and thoroughly enjoyable. Thanks.
